Family fun day brings community together
Families from the Lithos Road Estate in Camden enjoyed an estate party last week, helping residents get to know their neighbours and housing teams better.
Games, food and live music were enjoyed by dozens of visitors to the event, while officers from Camden Police on horseback joined in the fun.
Lithos Road is part-owned by Notting Hill Genesis but one of the co-owners, Odu-Dua Housing Association, take on the day-to-day management and organised the event.
Sharon Dawe, estate service co-ordinator for Odu-Dua, said: “We have organised this day to build up more of a community spirit. It’s nice for tenants to get together, as well as get to know their housing officer on a different level.
"It has been really nice to have so many people come out and enjoy the fun. I was really happy with the turnout and was really happy to have the local police here. They don’t get enough credit for what they do in our community.
“They are instrumental in tackling anti-social behaviour and having them here has brought out many different people who might not otherwise have felt as comfortable or safe.”
As well as having a steel band and DJ providing music on the day, there was also face painting, an ice cream van providing free ice cream, a series of races and tug of war for both adults and children.
It was a really fun day and we want to say a huge thank you to Odu-Dua for organising it. Having the chance to meet our residents in a fun, social setting like this is a great way for us all to get to know each other better.
