Popular new project wins prestigious award
An “excellent development that ticks every box” saw Notting Hill Genesis handed one of two honours at the National Housing Awards yesterday (Thursday).
Shakespeare Road in Ealing earned the award for Best New Scheme in Planning, sponsored by JLL, at the prestigious ceremony.
The project, which launched on 30 August and has already seen 55 per cent of homes reserved off-plan, offers 22 high quality shared ownership apartments with an attractive visual presence in-keeping with the Victorian-style architecture of the surrounding area.
Judges said: “The traditional design of this scheme complements the surrounding area beautifully and sensitively. An excellent development with strong community consultation and engagement, and environmental sustainability credentials that delivers much needed affordable homes.
The consultation clearly resulted in a design that respects and complements the surrounding homes and area. A great scheme with a tick in every box. Sensitive, sustainable and popular. The judges agreed we should see more like this.
In addition, we were also highly commended in the Best Design category for Cheviot Gardens, our extra care scheme in West Norwood. The award was sponsored by WeAreNav.
Launched in 2015, it provides 66 rental homes for people aged 55-plus, as well as 18 flats available for purchase through Older Person Shared Ownership.
Judges said: “A great looking scheme in a fabulous location which created an affordable option in an expensive area. It offers an attractive weaving design in an appealing garden setting for the over 55s. A wonderful replacement of old homes by new, which retains great sustainable properties."
Sarah Butler, director of sales and marketing for Notting Hill Genesis, said: It was fantastic to see these two brilliant schemes honoured in this way, and a fitting reward for all the effort that has gone into making them such a success. Also, Shakespeare Road is a legacy Genesis scheme, while Cheviot Gardens is legacy Notting Hill. These awards are a celebration of the work our organisations have done and a great sign of what is to come in the future now we working as one.”
The event, hosted by comedian Shappi Khorsandi, was held at the Grosvenor House Hotel in Mayfair.
